The Plan
When I first began teaching Yoga, it was all private sessions with family and a neighbor or two. That eventually evolved into teaching publicly at the local community center which I have been doing for a bit more than a year now. I love teaching at the community center but I find it quite limiting on a number of levels. The most obvious limit is that each class is peppered with new students. I am not against new students by any means! Rather, I cannot focus on those who would benefit more from a greater focus on meditation or pranayama. Nor do I have sufficient time to focus on the needs of the individual. For these reasons, among others, I am returning to private teaching. I still have a number of legal hoops to jump through before I can actually begin but those are mainly formalities at this point. Those who have followed my blog at Everyday Yoga know that charging money to teach Yoga does not sit especially well with me and yet, I clearly have a page full of rates linked on the left. Allow me to unfold my intent and plan for myself and for Yoga At Om. I am known for rambling at times; so I shall do my best to be succinct.
The Plan
Myself
For myself, the plan includes completing Amrit Level I teacher training which will happen in two weeks. Following this, I will complete Level II teacher training. If I can find the funds, I'll complete Level II next year and if I cannot find the funds, then I will complete that training in 2011. In the mean time, I will be starting back to school with Western Governors University. I'll begin the application process after I return from Florida next month. After completing my bachelors with Western Governors, I will complete a Masters Degree with the Internation Vedic Hindu University in Yoga Teaching. While all of this is occuring, we will be building an addition onto our home. The addition will include space that can be used as a small Yoga studio that will accomodate six people. My intention is for all of this to be completed with five or six years, a lofty aspiration but I did not intend to begin any training programs until next year; so, I am already a year ahead of where I thought I would be!
Why bring up these obviously personal directions? I included these personal aspirations because I want to make it clear that I am as much about learning as I am about teaching and that I am about teaching to such a high degree that even building onto my own home has become wrapped up in enabling me to teach.
Yoga At Om
I had not intended to return to private teaching until after building the addition, until after finishing up all my schooling, until later, until later, until later. Yoga teaches one to focus on now, not on later. The only time I can work, the only time I can be of benefit to someone is now. This being the truth, I moved forward with my plans for Yoga At Om. My aspirations for Yoga At Om are just as lofty. I will begin by teaching private sessions and the proceeds from those sessions be saved with a single purpose in mind: Funding a studio where I can offer inexpensive yoga classes to the community at large. This is sort of a twist on Robin Hood but instead of stealing from the rich to give to the poor, it is teaching those who can afford private lessons to help teach those who cannot and hopefully leaving everyone the richer for it.

Watch This Space
Jai Bhagwan!
I don't like being cryptic like this but I haven't time to go into detail at the moment.
